Major national infrastructure projects are required for economic growth and development.

Whilst optioneering, route selection proposals and consultation is a rigorous process, existing methods of engagement with communities and individuals can be detached from the real-world. Studies show that personal, interaction and being able to see real-world weather and landscape conditions creates more trusted visualisations.

VentusAR provides the ability to demonstrate alternative layouts and demonstrate fly through’s and overlays of environmental impact for natural capital assessment, enabling better understanding of the project.

VentusAR can be used throughout the whole corridor and route selection process, from identification assessment to stakeholder consultation and engagement.

On Site Visualisation

VentusAR is a portable solution that enables in-field visualisation.  On-site assessment enables professionals to explore with localised precision and accuracy. VentusAR allows a development to be visualised from any location, pre-planned or not. It helps dynamically assess, reduces return visits and shortens development cycles. This means lowers costs, improved use of resources time saving.

Linknode’s GIality technology uses the tablet’s integrated camera, GPS position and 3D gaming capabilities to create an accurate, location-specific, realistic view of 3D tranmission tower models. VentusAR’s ‘MyView’ photo-wireline overlay helps to save time when assessing viewpoint locations and determine the suitability of viewpoints without the need for return visits.  VentusAR can be used for assessing development potential, from feasibility and scoping to submission and consultation.

Dynamic Planning

VentusAR’s cloud-based services provide flexible access to multiple project versions and allow updates on demand.  Multiple layouts can be viewed from any live, planned or saved viewpoint, ensuring rapid assessment and site development. VentusAR helps better and more informed decisions to be made faster and with greater confidence.

Alternative site developments can be prepared in advance or edited on-site to allow an easy comparison of the available options.  The economic advantages of comparing “What-If” scenarios become quick and easy.  With a dynamic GIality-based approach, different models can be integrated into the visualisation, permitting roads, landscaping and buildings to all be assessed. The VentusAR solution provides the breadth and depth of assessment demanded for new applications and creates the best impression on clients, professionals and the public.

Live Viewpoints

VentusAR provides ‘My View’, an augmented reality based viewpoint visualisation. My View is live and updated up to 60-times a second, keeping in sync with every move of the tablet. By being able to accurately assess the impact of a site from any angle, VentusAR reduces uncertainly over the impact and improves the suitability of viewpoints and assessment of a development. Using the 3D gaming capabilities of modern tablets, VentusAR provides animation controls for viewing wind direction and speed. All updates are applied with immediate effect to create a more engaging interaction. This ensures that local aspect is considered in all scenarios, providing transparency. The ability to visualise any consented but un-built site, means cumulative impact can be viewed and multiple impact combinations assessed. VentusAR shows more options and combinations than can be cost-effectively created on printed media or simulated with Virtual Reality.  VentusAR is always updated based on the most recent data.

Independent, Auditable and Traceable Lineage

As a pure-digital platform, VentusAR ensures there is a traceable lineage for visual impact assessment. Uniquely, the digital generation of photo-wirelines means there is no human manipulation or intervention in the VentusAR views. All visual records may be independently verified creating an auditable record for third-party validation.

VentusAR visualisations are created by an integration of high-frequency sensor readings for location, attitude and orientation, with terrain models and 3D model data. Using Linknode’s geospatial expertise these data are referenced on the National Grid to create a real-world context for accurate visualisation. At every stage there is an auditable, traceable and reportable lineage for the data recorded by the system. This ensures that our augmented reality views and site previews have a defined record of precision and accuracy.

Easy to Use, Own, Maintain and Update

VentusAR is delivered on a tablet as a pre-configured, working application, or as an on-demand ‘VentusAR for Hire’ service. VentusAR integrates with business tools that are commonplace in professional life and can be used in the field without the need for new hardware and complex licensing.

Mobile applications represent the future of computing for many different applications where the importance of portability, ease-of-use, affordability and integrated sensors are driving factors. VentusAR runs on tablets that incorporate cameras, location and environment sensors. Tablets reduce the cost of ownership and integration points for existing IT policies.

Cumulative Services

When setting-up a wind farm in VentusAR, locations for nearby proposals are sourced from the national cumulative dataset. This helps save time by allowing office based assessments in the Fly Through or Wireline modes. At a viewpoint, intuitive controls allow cumulative turbines to be displayed in the live My View. For the first time, it is possible to see and share the story of a planned development in an engaging and interactive way.

The VentusAR gallery allows users to review saved images off-site. Stakeholders can virtually revisit viewpoints to better understand the overall impact of the development. Cumulative landscape and visual impact assessment is now a vital part of the planning process. VentusAR makes it easier and faster to source reliable information needed for this assessment. It provides a more flexible way to communicate the story of a wind farm development and its relevance to nearby developments.
